FIRE SAFETY

Undisplayed GraphicSmoke detectors should be installed on the ceiling, or 6 to 12 inches below the ceiling, every 40 feet on each floor of your child care facility. The detectors should not be installed above "drop down" ceilings or behind acoustic walls. Test the detectors monthly, and replace batteries at least every year. Install and maintain enough A-B-C-type fire extinguishers to be in accordance with insurance requirements or fire marshall recommendations. Post instructions for their use on or near the extinguishers. Make sure you and anyone else who works with you know how to use the extinguishers.

Note: This information is not intended to take the place of your state's or locality's child care regulations and laws. In every case, the laws and regulations of the city, county, and state in which the child care facility is located must be carefully followed even if they differ from these recommendations.
